A message from our Board

HYDC in performance On behalf of the trustees of The Hampshire Dance Trust, we regret to announce that we are unable to continue the work of Dance Up and it is therefore with great sadness that we have taken the very difficult decision to cease trading from 31 March 2015.

The Trust was established as a registered charity in 1992 and has built an excellent track record over the last 22 years, with a national reputation for its innovative and effective work, particularly in the areas of dance and health, children and young people and dance and science.  In the last two years we have also developed valuable experience and a growing knowledge of commissioning dance for heritage contexts.

However the funding environment has changed dramatically over the last few years with Arts Council England reducing its regularly funded client portfolio and local authority funding diminishing and becoming more focussed on commissioning. This makes for extremely challenging times, particularly for small organisations such as ours that become reliant on project funding to support core costs.

We would like to thank all the funders that have supported us and invested in dance over the past 22 years as well as all the individuals and organisations that have contributed so much to the success of The Trust's work. We are extremely confident our work, has not only made a difference to so many dancers but also strengthened the dance ecology across Hampshire and the South East.  We are currently working very hard to ensure the legacy of Hampshire Dance/Dance Up continues to inspire future generations of people for many years to come.
