What We Do - Frequently Asked Questions

What do you actually do?
Hampshire Dance works with individuals and organisations to enable and promote the experience and understanding of dance.
We work in partnership with a range of people from individual professional and community dancers through to local authorities and arts funders.
The current priorities for our work are youth dance, dance in education, dance and disability, and professional development for dancers.
Are you part of The Point in Eastleigh?
We are a completely separate organisation. We do work closely with The Point, which is Hampshire’s main dance venue.  Our office is next door to the Point, at 14 Leigh Road.
Do you run classes?
We currently run classes for young people and for dance professionals in various venues around Hampshire. If you are looking for a regular dance class try dance data.
What work opportunities do you offer?
We often have opportunities to lead classes and workshops. We are currently developing new opportunities in administration for volunteers. Contact us for information on both.
We rarely recruit new staff – if so we usually use Arts Professional and the email listing ArtsJobs.
What sort of information do you hold?
We hope that you will find a lot of it on this site.
We have fairly broad information and knowledge of dance in Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton. We also keep information on dance regionally and nationally, and subscribe to specialist dance journals.
Do you have funds for dance training?
No, unfortunately we are not a funding body. For more information on sources of grants see taking it further.
How are you funded?
We are core-funded by Arts Council England, South East and Hampshire County Council. Hampshire Dance is currently also receiving support from the Regional Arts Lottery Programme. We also raise funds on a project-by-project basis from trusts and other sources.

We work in partnership with local authorities on some projects and are currently receiving support from Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council, Test Valley Borough Council and Winchester City Council.
How are you constituted?
The Hampshire Dance Trust is a Registered Charity (No. 1087078) and Registered as a Company in England (No. 2931193). We have a Board of Trustees who meet six times a year.
