What do you actually do?
Hampshire Dance works with individuals and organisations to enable and promote the experience and understanding of dance. We work in partnership with a range of people from individual professional and community dancers through to local authorities, arts funders, schools, higher education and national organisations such as Youth Dance England. We focus particularly on professional development and youth dance.
Are you part of The Point in Eastleigh?
We are a completely separate organisation. We work alongside The Point, which is Hampshire’s main dance venue. Our office is next door to The Point, at 14 Leigh Road.
Do you run dance classes?
We do not run any open access classes at present – entry to our two youth dance companies NoCo and Hampshire Youth Dance Company is by audition. We also put on professional development workshops and courses.
What sort of information do you hold?
We have fairly broad information and knowledge of dance in Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton and knowledge of youth dance across the south east. We also keep information on dance regionally and nationally, and subscribe to specialist dance journals.
Do you have funds for dance training?
We are working with Hampshire County Council to deliver their new Springboard dance bursary scheme which supports young people aged 13 to 18 years and recent dance graduates. You can find out more from the Hampshire County Council website.
How are you funded?
We are currently revenue-funded by Arts Council England, South East and regularly funded by Hampshire County Council. Hampshire Dance is currently also receiving project support from the Youth Dance England. We also raise funds on a project-by-project basis from trusts and other sources.
Are you constituted?
The Hampshire Dance Trust is a Registered Charity (No. 1087078) and Registered as a Company in England (No. 2931193). We have a Board of Trustees that meet five times a year.
