Young people from across the south east of England will come together for a day of workshops delivered by South Asian dance practitioners followed by a public performance in the evening. The event will also provide a networking opportunity for South Asian dance practitioners to share ideas and best practice. This reflects the diversity of dance participation in the south east with an aim to promote health through dance.

Dhamaka is supported by chances4change, a portfolio of 62 projects in the south east funded by the Big Lottery Fund Well-being programme.

The public performance will begin at 6.30pm.

Tickets: £6 (full price) £4 (conc), available from the West Wing Arts Centre box office on 01753 823 710.

NRG Youth Dance & Health project

March 2007 saw the launch of the findings of groundbreaking research undertaken by Hampshire Dance and Laban .

The research assesses the effects of a ten week creative dance programme on the physiological and psychological health and fitness characteristics of school children aged 11-14 years. It has provided the first scientific evidence proving creative dance improves children’s physical and psychological fitness.

You can download the Dance Science Research Report (Pdf 236kb) or the research findings are contained within the NRG Evaluation Report (Pdf 994kb).
