Young people are taking over...
5th October 2010

On the 6 November 2009 Hampshire Dance and South East Dance threw open the doors of their respective Eastleigh and Brighton offices to host Takeover Day as part of a national event organised by the Children's Commissioner. It provided an opportunity for 42 young people to have their say about dance in their local area.
Takeover Day is a national event led by the Children’s Commissioner for England, Maggie Atkinson. It offers young people the chance to work with adults and get involved in decision-making.
Last year saw 30,000 young people working with hundreds of organisations, including businesses, schools, police and fire services, newspapers, banks, TV and radio stations, local councils, MPs, hospitals, charities and government departments.
Following the success of last year’s Takeover Day Hampshire Dance and South East Dance have encouraged three other organisations to open their doors for this major national event and are supporting them to host their own Takeover Days in 2010.
Loop Dance Company, Woking Dance Festival and Oxfordshire Youth Arts Partnership with the Courtyard Youth Arts Centre will all be inviting young people into their offices on the 12 November 2010. The young people involved will be able to gain an insight into the running of an organisation, engage in a variety of activities and learn about different career paths in dance. In turn the organisations involved will have the opportunity to consult with the young people about different aspects of their work and gain valuable feedback.
