Dance Training & Accreditation Partnership (DTAP) is a major, dance sector-led strategic initiative, and brings together a consortium of national organisations.
DTAP began in 2006 as a response to concern about the lack of recognised professional standards and qualifications at an appropriate level that equip dance professionals / artists for the nature and range of work that they are undertaking with children and young people.
DTAP has recently developed a new qualification, The Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning (Children and Young People). The new qualification has successfully gained accreditation from the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and is now available to the dance sector through the international examinations board Trinity College London.
The diploma is the first of its kind:
- Designed for practitioners working outside of formal education with children and young people
- Developed at the request of the major national dance organisations and led by Youth Dance England on behalf of DTAP
- Providing evidence to employers and parents / carers that a dance practitioner has the expertise to teach children and young people
- Relevant and accessible as part of continuing professional development
- Providing 90 credits at Level 6 of the national Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF)
- Available through independent study, professional guidance or taught courses.
You can find out more by visiting the DTAP website: www.dtap.org.uk
23-24 September 2010, The Mermaid Conference & Events Centre, London
Youth Dance England (YDE) is the national organisation that champions dance for children and young people. This Conference marks a very exciting time for YDE and its partners, as the first National Strategy for Children and Young People’s Dance 2010-2020 is launched. The Conference offers you a platform to share and discuss the strategy and its delivery in aiming to deliver a world class dance experience for all children and young people.
The Conference programme has been created in association with the National Youth Dance Network and key partners that promote dance in and out of school settings, and features presentations, debates, seminars, information exchanges and dance performances.
Special guests from the dance, arts, education, school sports and health sectors, alongside government and Arts Council England representatives will be speaking about the huge and far-reaching impact of dance on the lives of children and young people.
For more information, and to book a place, visit YDE’s website.
Hampshire Dance has compiled Dance in Schools, a resource for potential employers in the south east who are looking for practitioners to lead dance activity in schools in the region.
It also includes guidance on paying artists and setting up projects as well as information on organisations that coordinate dance and arts initiatives.
Dance in Schools was developed in partnership with Youth Dance England, as part of the Dance Links initiative which supports the Government’s PE and Sports Strategy for Young People (PESSYP).
