Dance can have a transforming and lasting impact on young people’s lives.
Hampshire Dance creates innovative opportunities for young people to participate, improve and excel in dance.
We run two county youth dance companies: HYDC and NoCo for talented young dancers in Hampshire and support Hampshire County Council in delivering Springboard, a bursary scheme for young people planning to pursue a career in dance.
Hampshire Dance is also the regional partner organisation for Youth Dance England (YDE) in the south east, leading on the development of an ambitious programme for youth dance across the whole region from Milton Keynes to Margate – not just in Hampshire!
We are working to support YDE’s aims of increasing access, raising standards and improving progression routes for every young person in the south east.
There are six core strands to the regional youth dance programme for the south east:
- Networking and Communications
- Workforce Development
- Youth Dance Performance (U.Dance)
- Dance in Schools
- Advocacy
- Progression for young dancers
You can find out more about some of these strands by browsing the youth dance pages on this website.
Alternatively, you can get a summary of the regional youth dance business plan from our download resources page.
The Regional Youth Dance Programme is funded by Youth Dance England
and the Big Lottery Fund chances4change programme.

Youth Dance England (YDE) is the national organisation that champions dance for children and young people. YDE works to ensure that dance is available to all, both in and out of school settings.
YDE has partnered with key regional organisations to create a network of nine Youth Dance Strategy Managers across the country. Sophie Amstell is the Youth Dance Strategy Manager for the south east at Hampshire Dance.
You can find out more about Youth Dance England by visiting the YDE website.
