If you have been dancing for a while you might be thinking about training as a dancer. Many young people from Hampshire have gone on to full time dance training and some have come back to the area as dancers, dance workers or teachers.
There is no avoiding the fact that it is hard work – not very different to training as an athlete! As well as a lot of commitment and energy, you will need to stay fit and look after your body. You will also have to be prepared for the challenges that dance training presents. However, many people go on to have rewarding careers in dance – a few of them as performers.
If you are thinking of training as a dancer it will help you to try different styles of dance and to go and see lots of performances.
You will find information about providers of dance courses in useful links . For really good guidance on training as a dancer try Council for Education and Training. They also offer an ‘Answers for dancers’ help line 0901 8800014 (calls cost 25p per minute). They have also provided information at young-dancers.org
