Come and see the south east's finest youth dance companies perform as they dance for a place at U.Dance 2012 in London in July.

11 groups from across the region will be performing at what should be a fantastic celebration of young dance talent.

U.Dance South East 2011

U.Dance South East 2011 took place on Sunday 20 March at Frensham Heights School, Surrey.

This regional youth dance platform showcased the very best youth dance work being created in the south east of England and included a range of exciting workshops for participants.

The groups that took part were: SJB School Limitless Dance Company, KC Zambesi Dance Company, StopGAP Youth Group, Fuzzylogic Dance, Acronikos Dance Troupe, NoCo, HYDC, Pivotal Youth Dance Company, Anjali Youth Dance Company and Cascade Youth Company. Hampshire Dance's South Asian Youth Dance Company EKANATYAM gave a guest performance.

U.Dance South East 2011 was managed by The Dance Movement in association with Hampshire Dance and with the support of Youth Dance England.

What is U.Dance?

U.Dance logo and branding imageU.Dance is the national programme which aims to give every child and young person in England the opportunity to take part in a dance performance each year.

The U.Dance programme, led by Youth Dance England, will create dance performance opportunities across the country, at local, county, regional and national levels to offer access to dance for children and young people in and outside of schools. You can find out more by visiting the U.Dance website.

How can I get involved?

If you run a dance performance anywhere in the south east, or are planning to do so, you can register your event with U.Dance free of charge. You will receive a free resource pack along with support in promoting your event through the U.Dance on-line national calendar.

A large number of youth dance providers in the south east have already registered their events with U.Dance – why don’t you join them? Just visit the U.Dance website to register.

What is U.Dance 2012?

U.Dance 2012 will be a unique celebration of of youth dance from across the UK taking place between 13 and 16 July 2012 at Southbank Centre. It will include three evening performances, open workshops during the day, a residential dance programme for youth dance groups, an international symposium for dance professionals, and the première of the first ever UK-wide youth dance company the U.Dance Ensemble, who will present their new work choreographed by Hofesh Shechter.

Youth dance groups from the south east can apply to perform at the regional selection event (see left) for a chance to be selected for U.Dance 2012.
